Discover the electromobility solutions offered by Eurotronix

On September 9th we celebrate World Electric Car Day, which highlights the importance of sustainable mobility and raises awareness for the adoption of cleaner and greener transport options.

Electric cars were born more than 200 years ago, but suffered a great decline after World War II due to the dominance of gasoline cars. Today they are making a comeback, becoming more and more common on our streets.

We took advantage of this day to showcase Eurotronix solutions for the electromobility sector: not only for cars, but also for bicycles, scooters and electric motorcycles.

Eurotronix solutions for electromobility

At Eurotronix we have a wide variety of solutions for EVs: batteries, connectivity systems, display screens, microcontrollers, LEDs, relays, connectors or terminals, all of them certified and following regulations such as ISO 16750, IEC 60664-1, ISO 6469-3 or IATF 16949:2016, among others.

Batteries

One of the main limitations of electric vehicles, especially cars, has been limited range. However, advancements in technology are making this obstacle overcome. Higher capacity lithium-ion batteries are allowing electric vehicles to reach longer distances on a single charge.

Thanks to the supplier EVE, we have secondary lithium batteries (LiFePo or NMC) which have a high energy density and high performance. They charge super fast, have a long lifespan and are very safe and stable.

Digital integration and communication

Connectivity is a key aspect of modern electric vehicles. Advanced user interfaces and touchscreens offer access to information about the vehicle’s status. In addition, connectivity allows users to control certain functions of their vehicles through mobile apps, such as checking the charging status.

  • Microcontrollers: They can be widely used in BMU, T-box, BCM, OBC, EV charging stations, LED headlights, smart cockpits, instrumentation control, seat controllers, and HVAC systems.
Geehy microcontrollers feature high computing speed, large storage capacity, support Autosar 4.3.0 MCAL, and comply with ISO 26262 ASIL-B standard.
  • Antennas: They allow simultaneous connection of signals from different technologies (LTE, GNSS, radio, etc.) to a single antenna. The type of signal as well as the connectors can be customized. They have a compact design and their installation ensures an IP67 protection level.

The 2J Antennas Shark Fin is a 2-in-1 cellular/LTE and GNSS antenna. It features great short and long range cellular data performance and has access to multiple satellites allowing for uninterrupted availability, making it ideal for global navigation or geolocation.
  • Cellular Modules: LTE-CAT4. Cavli Wireless Smart TCU + GNSS. This module features multi-constellation GNSS with Qualcomm IZat positioning technology for accurate and reliable positioning. It also includes an integrated eSIM option powered by Cavli’s Hubble platform that provides global connectivity and supports 3GPP Rel-10 standard with 2G fallback.
  • Secure and flexible RFID authentication for both paid public charging stations and privately managed charging infrastructures.

Prevent fraudulent use of the charging infrastructure and protect user data. Available in finished format or in format for integration into PCBs.
  • Touch screens: We have LCD-TFT displays from the manufacturer Raystar, which have a wide viewing angle, very low reaction time when touching them and great capacity for customizing the environment.

LEDs

LEDs are widely used in electric vehicles: they signal the vehicle’s status, illuminate the vehicle’s interior, and are also used in headlights and other signal lights. In addition, they indicate the vehicle’s charging status at charging stations and provide a clear visual interface for users.

We have various types of LEDs from suppliers such as Brightek, Harvatek, Refond or Honglitronic:

  • RGB+IC LEDs: for ambient lighting inside the vehicle and in charging stations for decoration and personalization. They are extremely small in size and have a full range of colors, as well as great color uniformity.
  • LEDs for both exterior and interior lighting of the vehicle: headlights, brake lights or indicators. They have high efficiency and power density.
  • IR LEDs: used in driver and occupant surveillance and monitoring systems, such as drowsiness detection, eye tracking, distraction warnings or child presence detection, among others.
They are very small and highly efficient, with a wide range of vision and high precision.

Other elements

  • AC-DC chargers and other connectors: Degson has different types of power connectors, for charging input or for signal transmission between the electronics and the e-controller, among others.
In addition, they offer chargers and sockets for three-phase and single-phase AC charging in compliance with IATF 16949:2016 regulations.
  • Viking or Kampcap supercapacitors, which are extremely safe and stable, allow a much faster partial charge of the electric motor and are charged with regenerative energy during braking, among other functions.
  • HVDC Relays: Hongfa has HVDC relays, one of the key components in building an alternative energy vehicle, which are not only electric vehicles, but also HEVs, PHEVs/PEVs and fuel cell vehicles. They can be used:
  • Main relays (electrical protection/safety control), mainly used to disconnect the battery.
  • Fast charge relays: to control the fast charging process.
  • Relays for auxiliary applications: for air conditioning, heating or DC/AC converters among others.
  • High voltage pre-charge relays: They are used in pre-charge circuits.
  • The function of HVDC relays inside load devices is to switch direct current.

We also have all kinds of terminals, power resistors and other elements that allow Eurotronix to offer a complete solution for electric vehicles.

Conclusions

Although electric vehicles have a greater impact during their manufacture than fuel-powered vehicles, the almost zero emission of pollutants throughout the vehicle’s useful life more than compensates for the initial investment in pollution, since 100% electric vehicles emit 0 CO2eq.

World Electric Car Day is nothing more than a celebration to raise awareness about the need to adopt cleaner and greener alternatives for personal transportation.

At Eurotronix we join in the celebration and make our Product Managers and FAEs available to advise and support any of our clients’ electromobility projects.
